November 23 The word of the yearThe Oxford dictionary word of the year 2009 goes to 'Unfriend'. Definition: To remove someone as a 'friend' on a social networking site such as Facebook. Source : http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/11/17/unfriend.word/ With that being included in the lexicon, we can now officially unfriend people in the digital world or be unfriended. It's a cruel cruel world. Your selection determines the fittest several to survive in your little list. November 11 The doctor is in...Two doctors, a psychiatrist and a proctologist, opened an office in a small town and put up a sign reading: "Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones: Hysterias and Posteriors." The town council was not happy with the sign, so the doctors changed it to read, "Schizoids and Hemorrhoids." This was not acceptable either, so in an effort to satisfy the council, they changed the sign to "Catatonics and High Colonics." No go. Next, they tried "Manic Depressives and Anal Retentives." Thumbs down again. Then came "Minds and Behinds." Still no good. Another attempt resulted in "Lost Souls and Butt Holes." Unacceptable again! So they tried "Analysis and Anal Cysts." Not a chance. "Nuts and Butts?" No way. "Freaks and Cheeks?" Still no go. "Loons and Moons?" Forget it. Almost at their wit's end, the doctors finally came up with: "Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones, Odds and Ends." Everyone loved it. November 08 Back to workHave not taken a break for that long ever since I've started working, going back to work tomorrow finally. Slight anticipation, more worries and even more unwillingness to face the reality of my mundane work. May I hope that there will be -
No heaps of mess awaiting for me to sort out.
Not a single episode of 'heart-attack' moment installed for me.
I hope tomorrow will be just as good as my lazy sunday and that my worries were just my misuse of imaginations. October 20 Feel good songsThroughout life, there're songs that lift me up when I'm down. They don't fade with time, not yet at least.
Love the funky whining in it.
Just try your best, try everything you can, and don't worry what they tell themselves when you're away
Even when your hope is gone, move along move along
* Sometimes taking a step back and losing out doesn't mean being weak, it's just because I'm not bothered anymore. There are definitely issues that deserve my attention more.
October 12 B 89.9fmB 89.9fm - the little gem i found amidst the mainstream radio stations which seem to play the same pop songs over and over again in a short time frame and overloaded with commercials as well as talks that lack in substance.
It annoys me that only the newly released singles are play all the time. It annoys me even more that only the version of song that won the votes get to be aired. When it loses the votes, it just means less people like it or people who listen to that version of songs are rational enough to not fall for that game. There's no need to completely wipe it out. Even the station that claim to have more varieties play certain varieties only. Feeling bored, I decided to explore more on the radio stations. Radio is the only thing tat get me through my journey to any place, gotta make sure my travel companion is good.
Then I found B 89.9 fm. It covers topics related to current affairs, business, technology and Barclays' premier league (!!). Nice soft rock of the 90's and no redundant pop songs. It's truly something different and sophisticated. Not many commercials too. Keeps me suprised and delighted again and again with songs I have not heard in a long time- Semisonic, Goo Goo Dolls, Garbage etc. I think I've found a niche for my growing-older mentality. The flip side, it can only be received in some states of Malaysia. But, the advent of podcasts make it easily available with the crystal clear quality. September 22 MemoirCame across some old stuff today and gathered some gut to bring myself seeing it. Realised that there are things that u can only do at a certain place, certain time, certain age and with a certain group of people. Didn't know what was on my mind when I did it but looking back now, I have no regrets. When the opportunity is gone, it's gone forever. When the time passes, u can't get it back. When u're getting older, u may not have the same mentality. So, carpe diem.
Maybe I'm sounding cryptic.
Funky times years ago.
The then-me is so far away from me now.
September 16 Life's lesser known maximsOne of the questions asked 'If a turtle doesn't have a shell, is he homeless or naked?'
And I display that phrase on msn to which my younger brother replied 'If a turtle doesn't have a shell, he is neither homeless nor naked, he's just lost his protective equipment' Now from a human point of view, naked= no clothes.
Are clothes protective equipment? Of coz they are. We have got different types of clothes available for protective purpose already eg. raincoat, labcoat, fireproof, bullet-proof even life-saving jacket. Apart from the physical protection, I think clothes serve the psychological protection too. What you wear usually give the first impression of what people think you are or who you are. We see people go for brands that reflects their society status and, their taste. People choose the colours / designs that show their mood. Or, we can hide our identity or true feelings by choosing the specific type of clothes. We'd need clothes that makes us feel confident when we're at a presentation or a job interview too. Once in a while we need clothes that enable us to fit into a certain society or cultural niche to avoid rejection/ conflict.
Home is definitely the protective equipment because home sweet home! Need I say more? September 15 BlockedLack of blog, does it mean lack of feeling towards my surrounding? Maybe? Maybe not? I want the brain of Ugly Betty please thank you. She seeems to be able to find ideas just so easily and inspired by anything that meets the eyes.
Of coz, u can say, it's just dramas. Don't u admire people who are behind it? They manage to think and write it up. Where did they get their ideas from? Same goes for those behind the movies. They deserve the credit and piracy doesn't do them justice. On the other hand,, we have to be able to care about our welfare before we can take care of others'. Life's full of tough choices and why does art has to be so expensive.
August 16 Thinking criticallyLittle Bobby came into the kitchen where his mother was making dinner. His birthday was coming up and he thought this was a good time to tell his mother what he wanted.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx How do u think out of the box in a restricted situation?
August 06 UntitledThe haze covers the sky
Stinking and irritating
The influenza's spreading like waves
Worrying and unsettling
It feels like it can only get worse
But
Your mail comes in after half a year of absense
Surprising and uplifting
Woooooo I'm so glad to hear from you again. Reply on the way but gosh how can I squeeze everything into one mail. I need some proper thoughts organising. A potential reunion in Japan? My heart wants it. haha...let's hope influenza starts ceasing soon. Every cloud has a silver lining right?
August 03 Old and witty>>Reporters interviewing a 104-year-old woman:"And what do you think is the best thing about being 104?" the reporter asked. She simply replied, "No peer pressure."
>>An elderly woman from Brooklyn decided to prepare her will. She told her rabbi she had two final requests. First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes scattered over Walmart. "Walmart!" The rabbi exclaimed, "Why Walmart?" "Then I'll be sure my daughters visit me twice a week."
July 15 I swear...Basically, the researchers from Keele University found that swearing ( I mean those that involve harsh words )increases the pain tolerance. The volunteers who swore were able to endure the searing pain from the icy cold water for another 40 seconds compared to the civil-tongued. It was believed that the accelerated heart rate in conjunction with swearing is associated with the 'fight-or-flight' response hence the pain becomes less significant.
The professor also warned not to overuse swearing for the fear of losing the 'emotional attachement'. That means when it's become a routine there'll be no aggresssion in the swear word> no increased heart rate> no 'fight-or-flight' response = pain stays. Just like when u're overusing a certain antibiotic in killing a colony of bacteria, they'll become resistant to the said antibiotic.
The rude people, the traffic light that turned red just at the time so RIGHT, leaving something vital at home, running out of something important but not going to get it anytime soon, had a plan but it has to be cancelled due to the unforeseen reason, the internet connection that keeps playing up, msn messenger that keeps signing out itself, missed out a junction and ended up travelling the extra 10 kilometres, the improper management that somehow affected me, wanted something so badly but it's too expensive etc... I swear by the moon, and the stars in the sky -under my breath. Am feeling healthier too.
June 07 'Health is not valued till sickness comes'As quoted from Dr. T. Fuller (1654-1734). What a true statement and it echoes so well especially when I fall sick.
Been having sore throat and coughs for 2 weeks though no biggie in comparison to many other illnesses, it's debilitating to a certain extent. Not to mention the psychological burden when it was suspected to be a case of TB. ( I have always thought BCG can prevent one from falling victim to TB but sadly there's no guarantee in that.) Thankfully, it was an unlikely case as it turned out. I am very interested to know which strain of bacteria is causing me trouble now but I have to wait till at least tomorrow.
Guess what I miss KFC, McD, pizza and the aromatic chinese style curry, I hope to recover soon in order to savour greater range of food. However, the afore-mentioned food won't seem to do health a justice. 'Health is not valued till sickness comes' Well I know I can control the amount to consume but I can't control the selfish gits who smoke in front of others and those who cough without directing their faces to elsewhere.
June 02 You're not aloneOn my way to work one morning, I bumped into YT. We waved at each other as she zoomed past me. Then I found myself landed just beside Ant's car. Another morning greeting through waving hands at each other. We live in the same area, leaving home at roughly the same time and travelling in the same direction up to certain junctions for our respective clinics. Being posted to the clinic where I've been claiming friend-deprived*, seeing them always makes me feel that I'm not alone in this (in truly Adam Lambert's fashion) MAD WORLD. The friendly faces are uplifting that my morning blues vanish quickly. YT later texted me '3 survivors meeting on the way to work!'. Survivors we are indeed.
* I mean the cool people with whom I can keep complaining how sucks anything is but I don’t see any wince on their face. Hehe...Thanks for listening. April 27 The first peaceful weekend of the monthThe first peaceful weekend of the month and it is now over. How sad. After 3 weekends in a row spent away for seminars/courses, finally I get a friday night which I chill to my heart's content as well as a satisfatory period of lie-in on both saturday and sunday morning. Lots of free time going on youtube checking out my favourite singers and discovered that the grown-up Take That is actually quite good. Even though they mostly appear well-groomed in suits nowadays singing the ballads and some cheesy songs from the past, they still manage to dance! They age like a bottle of fine wine, the older they are the better they get.
Needless to say I haven't been productive and the undone work left undone. At least, I also finished reading a book. I'll go to bed now hoping I wake up without Monday blues and I'll try not to think about the 2 weekends that will be occupied next month for now.
p.s. Ok, this blog of mine has reached the 4th year mark. I can't believe I've been blogging for 4 years already. The world of blogging is huge. U'll see many different people writing different stuff, sharing different stories, perceives from a totally opposite views, touching the topics u've never thought of....there's no right or wrong in the world of blogging and we can embrace the diversity that's been graced into our lives, through words. April 20 Do you know who am I?There are always people who think they themselves are well-known and demand for the VIP treatment. They will make the loudest complaint or try to intimidate you by showing off their titles that attached to their names or boasting their special relationship with some other important people if their wishes are not granted. It's unavoidable if you're at the frontline servicing counter. Don't let difficult situation gets to you and ruins your day, think of a wise solution and laugh it off are the ways to go. However we can't think quick enough at times. Anyway, this is quite a good joke to share...
A major airline had cancelled a very busy flight and a lone check-in agent is busy trying to sort out all the displaced passengers. A very angry and aggressive man barges his way to the front of the line to confront her. He says that he is flying first class and demands to go on the flight.
The agent politely explains the situation and asks that people take their place in the line. The man starts screaming at her, "Do you know who I am?" - at which the agent calmly picks up the microphone for the PA system, and announces to the airport, "This is (airline name) gate B22 we have a gentleman here who does not know who he is. If anyone can come and identify him please do so." The whole place roared in laughter. April 08 BalancingIn life, one is bound to find people that are plain disappointing and irritating to the core. The backstabbers, those who take advantages at others' expenses and not excluding those who jump queues.
Then look around again, there are also people who have been so caring and helpful, who will always be there with helping hands no matter how have things changed, or ruined even. I totally salute these people and will call them ANGELS.
After a month of complaining I've got no friends in clinic, I think I found yet another kind soul today...
When there's a black dot on a white board, do u see the black dot only and ignoring the white board? If so, it's a good idea to change the perspective for once, u'll discover something new.
March 26 The deadly virusHe is sitting across the table, sipping slowly his medicines which I've dispensed. Looking at his remaining and very unhealthy-looking hairs, slightly emaciated and pigmented face, ulcerated skin, blood-shot eyes ,can't help thinking of the load of virus contained in his body that is eating away his immune systems. When he speaks, he speaks incoherently.
The doctor thought we might as well help. Fine by me, as long as he has the intention to change for the better cause and not getting me any trouble. His brother is being kind enough to take him to the clinic daily but never accompanied him into the clinic. I find his memory is becoming worse these days and I don't know how far is his understanding towards my questions. My one simple and straightforward question got me some beating- around- the- bushes that didn't contain the essense I looked for. Of course, I'm frustrated but thinking of the virus that may be consuming his brain,I told myself to be patient. It was a matter of choice in the beginning, to try or not to try? But when chosen wrongly by succumbing to the euphoria from the shared needles, this is the end.
It can also be the end for many other innocent lives for eg. the unborn babies.
March 24 A legendary oneIn the hospital which I used to work, there's this pharmacist which almost known by everyone in the department. Apparently she's very smart and 'influential'...can be intimidating sometimes, I heard. I don't know how's she like and I don't have the fate to get to know her more. She left before I joined in and came back just after I left.
I guess you know you're a legend when people still talk about you during your one year of absence. And when you're returning, people wait anxiously...
